You'll be cursing that Bolland contract for years to come, or at least until he gets bought out.

A mere 1 year and a bit ago Jokinen had to be GIVEN AWAY and some of his salary paid

Then he puts up points by playing 1 year on a line with Malkin

and you convinced yourself he's worth 5.25 Million

Wow - must suck being a Florida fan....

Well actually, Jokinen is only making $4 mil per season for 4 years. Bolland is the one who carries the $5.25 mil cap hit.

EDIT: Upon reading the blog, I rescind this comment. Apologies for my laziness.

Never said he was worth 5.25. All I was saying in an overpaying world his production says he is likely worth closer to that than Bolland.

And no it doesn't suck being a Florida fan. It's my DNA, regardless of all the pain.

The point of Dan's blog was that the Bolland deal is livable if you delude yourself into pretending That the 2 salaries are reversed.

Nobody was confused about the actual contract amounts.

I almost had a heart attack when I read the leafs were offering Bolland a 5 year deal @ 5 mil per. Im happy Tallon swooped in with that insane offer...why did we have a lockout again?

Looking at where you were, and already stuffing the lazy Phaneuf's pocket, I'd most certainly agree.

Good read, Dan. However, I'm not as comfortable as you. Perhaps you were throwing back a few cold ones on your vacation when you came to this thought pattern.

I cant understand how you can put a positive spin on this contract.your paying for a guy that has played 1 full season(81 games 08-09)in his career of 7 seasons in nhl.also over the course of his career averages 50 games a season.thats an average of $115,000 per game,i guess Toronto's loss is Florida's gain

Agreed, Thank the Hockey Gods that he signed in Florida. Toronto offered him insane money. Imagine if he would have stayed in Toronto, it would have handcuffed us for years.

He has to be the highest paid third line center in the league, ouch

it's the same with Clarkson's contract. it suck for what he brings but you need to find a silver lining to keep your sanity.

Building winning teams through free agency isn't this simple. I don't like either of these signings.. When you make a splash in free agency, the GM should be adding complementary peices to an already solid core. Dave bolland new deal has a foul odor to it & it going to get stinkier by the day

The worst FA signing of the year goes to Florida on this bolland deal..

Now the David Lagwand signing at 3 mill per in Ottawa, could be the steal of the FA's

Wrong, Pouliot will be more of a waste of space.

Also, don't get too cocky with your Legwand signing, that guy is a bum. Detroit paid a lot to get him at the deadline and then wouldn't lift a finger to bring him back after they saw him play.

Love me some Bolland, but you can't feel good about $5mil+ for a shutdown center on a 30-35 win team.

I honestly don't hate Bollands contract. Is he overpaid? Without question. Is he a good enough hockey player that he could produce well enough to earn this contract (or come close)? Absolutely.

IMO, the logic this blog refers to is sound. Jussi Jokinen was underpaid, and anyone who thinks his offense was a product of playing with players like Malkin and Crosby is just loony. Guy has produced well at every stop he's made in the NHL so far.
